Food Pasteurization
Pasteurization is a process of heating a food, usually liquid, to a specific temperature for a definite length of time, and then cooling it immediately. Unlike sterilization, pasteurization is not intended to kill all micro-organisms. It just slows microbial growth. For example, there are two main types of pasteurization of milk used today: High Temperature/Short Time (HTST) and "Extended Shelf Life (ESL)" treatment. Ultra-high temperature (UHT or ultra-heat treated) is also used for milk treatment. In the HTST process, milk is forced between metal plates or through pipes heated on the outside by hot water, and is heated to 71.7 degrees C (161 F) for 15 to 20 seconds. UHT processing holds the milk at a temperature of 135 C (275 F) for a minimum of one second. The HTST pasteurization standard was designed to achieve a 5-log reduction, killing 99.999% of the number of viable micro-organisms in milk.

APT
offers a new method of non-thermal fast volumetric pasteurization (FVP) of packed liquid products, including water, juices, wine (aging), dairy products, low alcoholic beverages, vegetables and fruits in liquid and juice, and so forth, which does not effect the taste and quality of the product; consumes less power; eliminates a need in cap and bottle sterilization; provides very high heating rate; heats up product, not bottle; allows plastic application with lower melting temperature; provides simple integration into the production line; has portable design with small foot print, and other advantages.

Main parameters of the FVP process and equipment are as follows
:

Bottles diameter, mm - 40 to 120
Bottles configuration - any
Product volume, liters - 0.3 to 3.0
Heating rate for 0.3 to 3.0 liter bottles, degrees C/second - 60 to 10
One bottle processing time, seconds - 0.6 to 6
Production capacity, bottles per hour - 1,000 to 3,000
Power consumption, kW - 40 to 100
Processing module dimensions (without feeding system), mm (inches) - 600 (24) x 1,200 (47) x 1,500 (59)
Start up time, minutes - 3
